I‘m Kassy; a dedicated proofreader and copy editor. I have a keen eye for detail and enjoy helping writers communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. I am open, supportive and honest, and believe a good editor/author relationship is the key to success.
If you're looking for a proofreader who cares as much about your writing as you do, I'd love to work with you.
Let's make your words work!
My approach is both meticulous and friendly. I will help improve the reading flow, identify awkward phrasing, avoid word repetition, identify punctuation and grammatical errors and ensure overall consistency of your work. My aim to eradicate anything that will spoil the experience of your reader.
Working in Microsoft ‘track changes’ with your preferred style guide. As many revisions as required, until it’s flawless and ready to print.
Editing and proofreading matter because they are essential steps in producing clear, effective and professional writing. Good writing should communicate as clearly as possible. Editing helps refine the structure, flow and readability of text making the author's message clear and concise. Proofreading catches any remaining errors in the process, such as, spelling, grammar or punctuation, ensuring the content is polished and distraction-free.
Written work containing errors can undermine credibility and make the work appear careless or unprofessional. Taking the time to edit, can elevate writing from a draft to a compelling final piece, ensuring that it accomplishes what it is intended to do. Whether it's to inform, persuade, inspire or entertain.
Proofreading and line-editing.
When I’m asked to consider or begin a new project, here’s how my service works.
I read through the hard copy, highlighting sections where I feel the words need a little adjustment, whilst making notes in the comments box alongside. I’m happy to perform a sample in this way.
If we’re a ‘good fit’, then I’ll get to work.
I’ll go through the draft in Microsoft Word with the Track Changes feature enabled. Here I’ll tweak what’s necessary, making edits for grammar, spelling, punctuation etc. I will also leave supporting comments explaining my edits and sharing my thoughts.
Often a video call (or detailed email) follows this if we feel discussion is required to address the queries.
Go through the draft one more time, giving consideration to your feedback and preferences, and give the draft another scan over to ensure nothing has been missed or can be further improved.
Send the file back to you so that you may accept/reject the changes and reply to the comments and offer your thoughts.
Check the revision after final changes have been made, and return the edited piece, together with a clean copy if requested, and submit my invoice and style sheet for payment and completion of the project.
Proofreading is recommended as the final step prior to publishing.
Pricing structure…
I’m happy to provide an editing sample. This is particularly useful for us both, as it allows an evaluation of what the writing needs, whether it’s simply proofreading or a deeper edit required.
Whilst proofreading I will perform a line edit, and at this stage, if I feel more is required, I’ll get in touch with you.
A typical sample edit is 1,000 words, approximately 4 pages of a novel. For this, I apply an hourly rate, of 20€.
For a per word guide to estimate overall costs for proofreading and line editing any document or manuscript, I charge 0.021€ per word. This allows you to estimate the total costs of my services.
